…and You Think You Know People

When I started this blog a while back, I received a message from an old school friend – we’ve known each other for about 40 odd years I think. Anyway, she sent me a message saying that she liked the blog idea and that she wanted to share a poem with me that she had wrote for a speech she made at her own sons wedding…wait, what…”I never knew you wrote poetry”…where did that come from??

Well, lo and behold, this lovely little poem came through and I began to read it to a friend who was sat behind me on my computer and then I choked on the 3rd verse…haha…haven’t done that for eons. I had that bitter-sweet moment when you want to blub but at the same time you think you’re going to be laughed at…it was nice laughter though…

I think poetry is the same as photography, if it can affect you emotionally, then you’re onto a winner in my books. She also does many other types of poetry for a multitude of occasions…just saying 😉

She has allowed me to share it with you and kindly let you use it – just credit her if you do use it…many thanks, Nance x

The Kiss – Reinvented

In photography we have a saying…and that is ‘KISS’ which is quite apt considering this blog is all about love and romance.

But wait…this ‘KISS’ means = Keep It Simple Stupid!!!!

Haha…it always makes me chuckle because the first time someone told it me I thought they was being personal. Anyway, I’ve always tried to apply this in my work (see above photo for natures colour wheel)…she always gets it right!! I used the colours from that photo to style a fashion shoot I did over a year later.

I adore how the simplest colour schemes can invigorate a whole room, a car even, a super outfit or indeed a wedding collaboration of make up artist, hairdresser, wedding planner and the bride herself.

One of the simplest tools I use is a colour wheel, you’ve probably heard of them and it puts colours together in a way in which they can be:

a) complimentary – always a good thing, haha
b) monochromatic – groovy
c) analogous – what?…am I losing you yet 😉

Go check out this fab colour wheel  I found eons ago on this student site, it’s still the best one I’ve used, because it’s so simple. There is a little tutorial at the bottom of the page, but it is very intuitive to use. Once you get a colour scheme you like, then and only then, pop over to Pinterest to get the matching colour scheme…you will then use Pinterest like a boss…

Own it girl, haha…

A Grand Day Out

Well…today was the Wedding Fayre at Best Western Garstang Country Hotel & Golf Centre  and didn’t they do just a lovely job of it. I managed to grab a few moments with quite a few exhibitors who were displaying some gorgeous items.

There was Once Upon A Cupcake  who had some stunning little cupcakes and I also got to taste some of their beautiful  wedding cake too…it was really quite divine…

I just had a bit of time to fire off a few shots of the catwalk brides…they really looked stunning. The dresses were really, really pretty…and the lasses modelling them were ever so nice. A big well done to all the guys who organised this, it went down a treat with everybody!!

I Get By with a Little Help From My Evernote

Don’t you just love long titles…

Evernote

I’ve been using Evernote for a couple of years now and it’s only in the last year I’ve become to find out how crucial it is to use it as a planner for my photography, but I think more so for the wedding couple. You can take snapshots of things on the web, share them, edit them, you can store, email from, keep track of, take clippings from blogs…just so many connotations.

There is a free version which in itself is very good, but the Plus and Premium accounts are very reasonably priced. I used my Evernote in conjunction with a bride a while ago and we could both send each other notes, ideas…novels haha…timeline scenarios, but we both could edit at our respective ends.

It works on Mac and Windows and is well worth a look if you like a bit of order in your life…but don’t just take my word for it, check out the this wedding couples write-up and a different point of view from a photographer.

A Wedding Poem?

One of my favourite poems is the Life That I Have by Leo Marx. I first heard it on the film, Carve Her Name With Pride about the true story of Violet Szabo who was a secret agent during the Second World War, the poem is as follows:

The life that I have
Is all that I have
And the life that I have
Is yours

The love that I have
Of the life that I have
Is yours and yours and yours.

A sleep I shall have
A rest I shall have
Yet death will be but a pause

For the peace of my years
In the long green grass
Will be yours and yours and yours.

To me, it is one of the most beautiful but poignant poems of all time…would it make a good wedding day poem in this day and age…well Chelsea Clinton thought so a few years back, she used it in her marriage to Mark Mezvinsky…
